I'm Jesse, a professional maths and computer science tutor who lives in Brighton, UK. I'm also an ex-software engineer and a local Fiveways, Brighton parent!

Whether students have been struggling or aiming to get ahead, I help them to make significant gains in their confidence and knowledge, leading to better exam results.

My tutoring approach is to:

• Meet students where they actually are on a given topic. I make careful and continual assessments, not assumptions about where a student 'ought to be'.

• Create a welcoming, non-judgemental space, as many students experience heightened anxiety around maths in particular.

• Break down topics into clear, digestible chunks so that students don't feel overloaded or overwhelmed, as many often do in maths class.

• Guide and listen, rather than lecture, when a student is trying think through a problem.

• Plan every session in advance, designing bespoke materials.

• Discuss and keep track of goals, progress, and special requirements - with students, parents, and (if parents request it) teachers.

I am patient, results-driven (see my reviews) and passionate about finding new ways to reach and motivate students of all abilities. I love learning and earned an MSc in Computer Science (with Distinction) from Birkbeck, University of London. As tutoring should be available to anyone who needs it, I also volunteer as an A-level maths tutor for Tutor the Nation and as a GCSE maths tutor for The Access Project. I also hold an up-to-date high level background check (Enhanced DBS).

I tutor students sitting exams at all levels and for all exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA, and Cambridge OCR. 

I can also help adult learners, students with additional needs such as SEND or SpLD, or anyone who might need help with: 

• preparing for GCSE resits

• Function Maths qualifications

• returning to maths after some time away from it

• home schooling

I charge £50/hour for each one-to-one online session (with concessions available), or a bit more to travel within the area. I'm based in Fiveways, Brighton - a few minutes walk from Varndean and Dorothy Stringer schools, but I tutor students studying at schools across the area, including BHASVIC, Brighton College, Patcham High School, Cardinal Newman College, and many others.
